Export and import guide

Get the file right before you import.

Conversion extracts your rows. A successful import also needs the right file format, column mapping and a final review in your accounting software.

These three rows are fictional. The download uses the same standard CSV generator as the converter: Date, Description, Debit and Credit. An additional Category column can appear when categories are available.

Choose a format on your plan

Try a PDF without an account. The free preview and CSV download include up to the first 50 transactions. Exports are files you import into your accounting software. ConvertBank does not connect to your bank or sync transactions directly to an accounting platform.

A CSV opens in spreadsheet software; it is a different format from an Excel workbook. Check plan allowances before upgrading for a particular export.

Review before importing

  1. Compare the extracted rows against the original PDF. Check dates, descriptions, debit/credit signs and missing or duplicate transactions.
  2. Check the opening balance plus money in minus money out against the closing balance, where available. A preview limited to 50 rows cannot establish completeness of a longer statement.
  3. Choose the correct account and date range in your destination software. Check for rows already present from another import or a bank feed.
  4. Use the destination's current template or column-mapping screen. Import a small checked sample first, then reconcile the results.

Follow your software’s import guide
